Chinese New Year is a traditional Chinese festival. We also call it the Spring Festival. It falls on lunar January 1st. It comes after the Western New Year. There are some similarity between the Chinese and Western New Year: houses are cleaned thoroughly.

Before the Chinese New Year, everyone is very busy. They want to have a new beginning, so everyone is busy cleaning the room. They keep the room tidy. This is the first thing to welcome the Spring Festival.

On New Year’s Eve, all the people would sit around the desk and have a big family dinner for the festival. There are lively dragon and lion dances in the streets. There are fire cracker explosions everywhere. Children receive gifts of little red envelopes with money inside.

Many superstitions are related to the celebration of the Chinese New Year. No sweeping must be done in case the family's good fortune will be swept out the door with the trash. One should be especially careful not to break any dishes, for such an accident is believed to bring about serious problems between members of the family throughout the coming year. Conservative families send their kitchen god off to make his annual report in heaven on New Year's Eve. This god is worshipped in the form of a paper portrait of the god pasted on the kitchen wall. There he keeps an eye on his human family throughout the year, and goes back to heaven to report on what he has seen.

At New Year's time most Chinese families paste signs on and around the front doors of their homes. These signs consist of black or gold Chinese characters written on squaresor strips of red paper, because red is a happy color which brings good luck. The New Year sayings written on them are usually good luck phrases, or words related to spring—a symbol or new growth, new hope, new beginnings—since in China the New Year also marks the beginning of spring. On New Year's Day people dress in their best clothes to go visiting relatives and friends, wishing everyone they meet a Happy New Year. Most shops are closed on this day; some stay closed for three days some up to a week, and then open their doors to the new year with a long strings of fire crackers.

Due to difference in cultural custom from around the world, each region also has different way to celebrate the New Year.

With our neighboring country, India, October 31st is Indian New Year. The first day, people not allow angry and get angry. Some areas of India, in the New Year morning, every people must cry. Because it is sign with greet of life. The other way, people fast a day and a night to welcome The New Year.

After visiting relatives and friends, people will use red pinepainted on each other’s forehead, it shows good luck.

Every country use own unique form to express the good wishes!
